Iced Mochas, Pugs & Art Journaling

Good Morning beautiful souls,

What a gorgeous morning we have today!  Lots of sunshine even though the air is a bit crisp for me.  I’m a summer girl and I love it HOT!  Yup the kinda hot that makes you feel like you can’t breath (lol).  I never said I wasn’t crazy haha!

I hope all of you had a nice weekend.  I allowed myself some much needed down time and spent some time outside in the sun with my husband and our 3 pugs.  Things have been moving just way too fast for me lately that I felt I really needed a pause.  It seems like in the creative world it goes in waves during those busy times I can easily spend entire days and evenings in my art studio without even realizing it.  This can be the downside of working at home.  So I try to stay present and in the moment and remember to take a break and to enjoy life and all the things around me.  So this weekend that’s just what I did.

We enjoy having our morning coffee on our back deck and I have to say that the pugs love it too.  As you can see here they are spoiled with blankets and beds and are quite comfortable as you can see 🙂

I mentioned last week how much I love to go to our local Farmer’s Market.  And one of my great loves is cooking.  As much as cooking is work it clears my mind, relaxes me and just makes me feel good!  I especially love to make things from scratch and this weekend after purchasing some juicy peaches from the Market, I made this peach pie from scratch.

While making this pie it brought back a bittersweet memory of past years when I would bake peach pies with peaches I bought from the Market.  I would always bake 2, one for us and one for my parents.  I would stop over unannounced to my mom and dad’s house and bring the fresh pie and sometimes a small thing of vanilla ice-cream.  Every time my dad would say “a peach pie, I haven’t had one of those in years”, so happy to have the fresh baked pie (my mom had dementia and wasn’t cooking anymore at this point).  Even though I had just made one for them the year before lol, I think it was his way of keeping me coming back each year with one :).  It’s been just a little over a year since I lost my dad and those memories creep up quite often into my mind, and I know he’s smiling down wishing he had could have a piece of that peach pie.

What Seems to us as bitter trials are often Blessings in disguise – Oscar Wilde

Because I do love to cook I tend to come up with my own little recipes for special things that I make for my husband and myself.  One of my favorites is my homemade Iced Mochas.  Being a huge coffee lover I came up with my version to make at home.  I will share my simple recipe with you as you might love coffee as much as I do and therefore would need this recipe. 🙂

This recipe makes a serving for 2 or 2 -16 ounce drinks (so could be for 4 if you split into 8 ounce cups each)

  •  2 Starbucks Via Instant coffee packets in the dark Italian roast (you can use another brand or different roast – this is what I drink at home so I have it on hand
  • 1/2 teaspoon unsweetened dark cocoa powder -I get mine from the Farmers Market
  • 5 teaspoons German Rock Sugar – I get mine at Teavana you can use what you have on hand
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Then you want to boil some water in a pot or tea kettle – I usually add about 1-1/2 cups of boiling water to the above ingredients.  Stir and be sure that the sugar is all dissolved before moving on to the next step.

I use 2 glasses that hold 16 ounces of liquid each and to them I add ice and about 1/2 cup liquid non dairy creamer (I use Cremora) you could use milk or almond or rice milk.

Now add half of your hot mix to each of the cups – stir and enjoy!

These are delicious treat on a warm summer day and I have to say that my husband loves them!! 🙂

Saturday evening it started to rain and was a bit cool outside so I settled in my studio with my art journal and my music playing to do a little creating.  As the music played a song came on that caused me to stop what I was doing and just listen.  Not because it was a new song or something I didn’t know but because it had been a song that I have listened to many times this year and thought on so many occasions that this is my Mantra this year.  The song is called Catch My Breath by Kelly Clarkson and I will share a link to the song here.  The words just speak to me on so many levels and so when I finished working on the girl in my art journal I decided to add some of the lyrics to my page from this song.

The song talks about her finally loving herself for who she is (addicted to the love I found).  She goes on to talk about how she won’t live her life how others expect her to but that she will do things her own way …. there is probably more meaning to it than that but that’s my condensed version.  It is just such a powerful and empowering song to me!

which brings me to remind all of you that we still have the Empowered Creative Woman free online class going on.  My 2 classes have already been posted and you can find them starting here on my blog.

Leslie Ackman’s class for last week has already posted and you can find that here.  This is also where you will find this weeks class that will be posted on Thursday 8/10/17.

Before I go I have something that I came across awhile back and wanted to share with all of you.  This video speaks for itself, it’s only like 2 minutes long so I ask all of you to just watch it.  If you are a creative like me it will speak to you I promise it’s worth the watch!!

Thanks so much friends for sharing your time with me this week, may you have a fabulous week full of peace and happiness!! xxoo – Sherry

Morning Inspiration & Online Workshop

Good morning friends.

It seems lately with summer upon us that my heart has been filled back up with inspiration. For the past month and a half I have been battling with family issues – my mom being sick and just so much has been weighing my heart down. So much that for a while I would sit at my art table and have absolutely no creativity come out of me. Because this has happened to me many times I knew enough not to try to force it as it would totally just leave me feeling frustrated. But with creative deadlines looming for the design teams I am on I do admit I was in a bit of a panic.

So what did I do……

Well not much haha. Bet you didn’t expect that answer. ❤️.

I have found what works for me is just sitting with my thoughts n feelings, allowing them to be inside of me – cry if I needed to but just allow myself to feel my feelings.

I will say that this is not an easy thing to do.   Especially when your feelings are those of hurt and pain, of things you can’t control, of things you just plain don’t want to feel.

I turned to my oracle cards, which I often do during times of stress and heartache. I would cleanse the air each morning and do a reading, asking the cards to give me the guidance I needed to keep moving forward. Praying I wouldn’t just get stuck.  Each time I would get the guidance I needed I would feel a tiny bit better but still my creativeness was on what seemed like permanent vacation without me.  You can see my readings on my Instagram posts here and here .

The other morning I woke up and inspiration hit me. I mean like totally not expecting it out of the blue hit me. I all of a sudden wanted to paint. I had so many ideas looming inside of me wanting to break free and this….. the most powerful feeling I have had since I came up with my Stencil Crush Tuesday Videos. The urge to create an online class. Not just any online class but one that would have meaning, one that would help others , one that would put me back in the creative game to inspire others and myself along the way.

So with that being said, in just a few short weeks I will be offering my first ever solo online workshop for FREE. Yes you heard that right for free. Why you might ask?  Because I want to give back to all of you, to the world, to the women out there that need this as much as I do.

In just a few short weeks I will be releasing “THE EMPOWERED CREATIVE WOMAN” workshop – designed to help women find their voice through art and creativity.

This free online workshop will include private videos created in real time, journal prompts, art techniques, inspiration to help you empower yourself.  But most of all it will include a lot of love and self love that we all need. There will be a private safe and nurturing Facebook group created for all of us to connect, to give each other support and lift each other up.

As this beautiful workshop is still in the works I will share more details as I get closer to the release.  Be sure to follow my blog and sign up to get notifications when I post on my blog so you won’t miss the realize of this class.  The only way to access this free online workshop will be through my blog.

For now I leave you will several photos that have inspired me today from my yard. Nature is so alive, so vibrant so full of peace and happiness. It brings a soothing feeling over me to gaze at the flowers being touched by the morning sunlight.

Wishing you all an amazing rose petals and flowers kinda day.

Stencil Crush Tuesday using Jessica Sporn Designs

Hi Friends well its been awhile since I have actually done a blog post.  I didn’t realize how long actually.  Keeping up on so many social media sites along with difficult family things I’ve had to deal with has left me in a bit of a time crunch and something had to give I guess.

I’m sure there are many others out there that can relate to having so much to do yet so little time.  That being said I have a special Stencil Crush Tuesday Tutorial to share with you today using 2 beautiful stencils by Jessica Sporn Designs.

The first one is a brand new stencil that was just released and I just love it.  It speaks to my heart it’s called Love is for everyone script . The second stencil is from November’s Stencil Club and it’s called Nature and Nurture .

I hope you will grab your stencils and your paints and come along and create with me today.

Thanks so much friends for sharing your time with me today, I hope you enjoyed todays tutorial and if you did please leave me a comment either here or on my Youtube Channel I truly love to hear from all of you.  Don’t forget to subscribe to my channel so you can get a steady dose of inspiration.  If you missed my first tutorial for the Roben Marie Smith Design team you can check it out right here
