Iced Mochas, Pugs & Art Journaling

Good Morning beautiful souls,

What a gorgeous morning we have today!  Lots of sunshine even though the air is a bit crisp for me.  I’m a summer girl and I love it HOT!  Yup the kinda hot that makes you feel like you can’t breath (lol).  I never said I wasn’t crazy haha!

I hope all of you had a nice weekend.  I allowed myself some much needed down time and spent some time outside in the sun with my husband and our 3 pugs.  Things have been moving just way too fast for me lately that I felt I really needed a pause.  It seems like in the creative world it goes in waves during those busy times I can easily spend entire days and evenings in my art studio without even realizing it.  This can be the downside of working at home.  So I try to stay present and in the moment and remember to take a break and to enjoy life and all the things around me.  So this weekend that’s just what I did.

We enjoy having our morning coffee on our back deck and I have to say that the pugs love it too.  As you can see here they are spoiled with blankets and beds and are quite comfortable as you can see 🙂

I mentioned last week how much I love to go to our local Farmer’s Market.  And one of my great loves is cooking.  As much as cooking is work it clears my mind, relaxes me and just makes me feel good!  I especially love to make things from scratch and this weekend after purchasing some juicy peaches from the Market, I made this peach pie from scratch.

While making this pie it brought back a bittersweet memory of past years when I would bake peach pies with peaches I bought from the Market.  I would always bake 2, one for us and one for my parents.  I would stop over unannounced to my mom and dad’s house and bring the fresh pie and sometimes a small thing of vanilla ice-cream.  Every time my dad would say “a peach pie, I haven’t had one of those in years”, so happy to have the fresh baked pie (my mom had dementia and wasn’t cooking anymore at this point).  Even though I had just made one for them the year before lol, I think it was his way of keeping me coming back each year with one :).  It’s been just a little over a year since I lost my dad and those memories creep up quite often into my mind, and I know he’s smiling down wishing he had could have a piece of that peach pie.

What Seems to us as bitter trials are often Blessings in disguise – Oscar Wilde

Because I do love to cook I tend to come up with my own little recipes for special things that I make for my husband and myself.  One of my favorites is my homemade Iced Mochas.  Being a huge coffee lover I came up with my version to make at home.  I will share my simple recipe with you as you might love coffee as much as I do and therefore would need this recipe. 🙂

This recipe makes a serving for 2 or 2 -16 ounce drinks (so could be for 4 if you split into 8 ounce cups each)

  •  2 Starbucks Via Instant coffee packets in the dark Italian roast (you can use another brand or different roast – this is what I drink at home so I have it on hand
  • 1/2 teaspoon unsweetened dark cocoa powder -I get mine from the Farmers Market
  • 5 teaspoons German Rock Sugar – I get mine at Teavana you can use what you have on hand
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Then you want to boil some water in a pot or tea kettle – I usually add about 1-1/2 cups of boiling water to the above ingredients.  Stir and be sure that the sugar is all dissolved before moving on to the next step.

I use 2 glasses that hold 16 ounces of liquid each and to them I add ice and about 1/2 cup liquid non dairy creamer (I use Cremora) you could use milk or almond or rice milk.

Now add half of your hot mix to each of the cups – stir and enjoy!

These are delicious treat on a warm summer day and I have to say that my husband loves them!! 🙂

Saturday evening it started to rain and was a bit cool outside so I settled in my studio with my art journal and my music playing to do a little creating.  As the music played a song came on that caused me to stop what I was doing and just listen.  Not because it was a new song or something I didn’t know but because it had been a song that I have listened to many times this year and thought on so many occasions that this is my Mantra this year.  The song is called Catch My Breath by Kelly Clarkson and I will share a link to the song here.  The words just speak to me on so many levels and so when I finished working on the girl in my art journal I decided to add some of the lyrics to my page from this song.

The song talks about her finally loving herself for who she is (addicted to the love I found).  She goes on to talk about how she won’t live her life how others expect her to but that she will do things her own way …. there is probably more meaning to it than that but that’s my condensed version.  It is just such a powerful and empowering song to me!

which brings me to remind all of you that we still have the Empowered Creative Woman free online class going on.  My 2 classes have already been posted and you can find them starting here on my blog.

Leslie Ackman’s class for last week has already posted and you can find that here.  This is also where you will find this weeks class that will be posted on Thursday 8/10/17.

Before I go I have something that I came across awhile back and wanted to share with all of you.  This video speaks for itself, it’s only like 2 minutes long so I ask all of you to just watch it.  If you are a creative like me it will speak to you I promise it’s worth the watch!!

Thanks so much friends for sharing your time with me this week, may you have a fabulous week full of peace and happiness!! xxoo – Sherry

    1. Awww thank you so very much Kimberlye. I knew you would love that video bc it was the same reaction I had when I watched it awhile back. It’s so easy for us to get discouraged when we see others ahead of us in the journey but honestly each of us will never be in this exact spot again and so I’m learning to just enjoy the journey wherever it takes me , I mean what’s the rush we have our whole lives right?! Love you sweet friend 😘😘❤️❤️
